Anti-bullying lesson - fun activity
If it is anti-bullying week at your school, this could be a great activity to get your class thinking about feelings and how actions can affect people.
|
10 Minutes
|
· I will
hand out pre-cut paper hearts.
· I will
give them about 8 minutes to colour them however they like.
|
|
15 Minutes
|
· I will
ask them to put their markers or crayons away.
· They
will then be asked what mean words or actions are.
· I will
write them on the board for them.
· After we
create our list, I will tell them that all of those things have been said or
done to you.
· They
will proceed to crumple their heart, stomp on it, anything but rip it apart
completely.
|
|
5 Minutes
|
· I will
ask them to say sorry to their heart.
· They
will then be asked to fix it and make it a pretty heart again.
· They
won’t be able to… This is because sorry’s are said after the damage is done.
· Everything
they say or do can affect someone either positively or negatively.
· They
need to reflect and understand that what they do matters. Because at one
point they had a beautiful drawing or doodle on their heart and now it is
covered in scars and is no longer the same.

· Warm
fuzzy
· The warm
fuzzy story. This is something I did at leadership camp every year in high
school.
·
The Story:
· Once
upon a time there was a little village, tucked far away in between two large
mountains. Now this village was extremely special, and so were the people who
lived there. Everyone who lived there carried a little bag full of these
things called warm fuzzies. See now warm fuzzies would make people feel good
and happy… They would feel all warm and fuzzy. You could ask anyone for a
warm fuzzy. Whoever you saw, you could ask. But one day a businessman came
into the village and wanted to make warm fuzzies a business. He wanted to
find a way to make money. He said “listen, if you keep giving those out,
you’re not gonna have any left for yourself. So, you need to keep your warm
fuzzies and save them.” The villagers were unsure of what to think about what
he was saying but they took it into consideration. The businessman offered
these things called cold pricklys instead. This way the people could save
their warm fuzzies for themselves and never run out. So, people began to buy
cold pricklys and hid their warm fuzzies where no one but themselves could
find it. The villagers would give cold pricklys to people they didn’t know or
weren’t sure of. Very quickly the village became a sad and mean place, full
of cold pricklys. All the villagers wanted to receive were warm fuzzies, they
missed that feeling of happiness and joy, what made them feel all warm and
fuzzy. But no one was giving them out anymore. The animals started to
disappear, and the flowers shrivelled up. Until one day, someone came
travelling through the village with a bag full of warm fuzzies. And this
person began to hand them out to everyone in the sad and unhappy village. All
the villagers told him that if he continued to hand out his warm fuzzies he
would run out and not have any left for himself. But the traveler stood there
and laughed. He said,” I will never run out if we learn to share”. And just
like that the villagers started to hand out their warm fuzzies again. They
realized that the traveler was right, if they continued to hand out their
warm fuzzies to each other they would never run out. And just like that, the
animal started to come back and the flowers began to bloom. Warm fuzzies have
a very magical power. And that is making people feel happy and joyful.
· Then I
will hand out a paper bag and they can write their name and decorate it.
· Ill then
tell them it is their duty to write warm fuzzies to their classmates. These
will consist of kind words and complements.
· They
will be allowed to put these into their classmate’s bags anonymously or not;
however, no mean or inappropriate words will be tolerated. This is a fun
activity when done properly.
· At the
end of anti-bullying week, they can open up their bag full of warm fuzzies
and experience the feeling of excitement and happiness.
